MICHEL COLOMBIER
1939 - 2004

From SCL President Dan Foliart
The Society of Composers & Lyricists has lost a great friend and ally. We're sorry to
report the passing of Michel Colombier, whose versatility as an artist was only eclipsed by his
passion for music and love of life. Beginning with his arrangements for Charles Aznavour's first
album featuring English lyrics to recent collaborations with his friend, Mikhail Baryshnikov, his
artistic palette was unique in every way. From such diverse movies as UNE CHAMBRE EN VILLE to
PURPLE RAIN, Michel explored a multitude of textures and styles. His contributions to the careers
of Petula Clark, Barbra Streisand and the Kronos Quartet will stand as a fitting legacy for this
gifted composer. The SCL was fortunate to have the rare opportunity to share an evening with
Michel in recent months. He will be missed by all of us.
THE SOCIETY OF COMPOSERS & LYRICISTS (SCL) is the non-profit organization
for professional composers and lyricists with a long and distinguished history in the fine art of
creating music for motion pictures and television.
