Michel is one of those rare musicians who can conjure
sounds so unexpected that you wonder if you heard them or imagined them.
His work on 'Messiah' came from some pretty dark and scary places, so much
so that when he reached for the more conventional strings or his treatment
of a Bach chorale it felt as though your head had been allowed out of the
water, though only for a brief respite.
To work with he is a dream of collaboration and, more importantly, being
a Frenchman more than a Californian will always make time for a decent
lunch.
