I'm a huge fan of the movie Double Switch and I read that Michel Colombier was one of the composers for that movie.
Would you be able to help me find the music from this movie? I've been trying to find a soundtrack however, it appears there never was one made for the movie which is very unfortunate and I though perhaps you can help me find it somehow.

I'd really appreciate it. Thank you kindly for your time and assistance.

As listener of the album Michel Colombier (1979) i could say that the music expressed in that occasion was cool and a nice expression of the groove and love for the music that inspired everyone (the musicians) involved in the process. Nice mile on the road, to remember.

I think that my previous tribute to Michel Colombier was a bit trite. I think that a better tribute would be analyse the 'Michel Colombier' album in further detail. It seems to me that his greatest attribute was to draw out remarkable performances from already remarkable professional musicians.

We often hear Michel's type of music (and that of many other jazzers) described as 'Musak', the sort of music we hear in Supermarkets. But what sets his music apart is the sensitivity of the musicians involved and his innate ability to create music at its supreme best.

For example;

1)Dreamland gives Jaco Pastorius a beautiful solo for fretless bass with superbly sensitive backing.
2)Then there is Larry Carlton's solo on Spring; so lyrical and controlled. But its Paco Pastorius's bass that keeps grabbing the attention as well as the orchestration. Wherever Jaco Pastorius appears in the album his contributions are staggering.

However, I must give my greatest appreciation to Mike Brecker's performance in Bird Song. We all know that he has staggering technical abilities, but here he plays it simple, and with soul. So much soul, and with that lovely acoustic guitar backing, that when he hits those higher registers he tears your soul apart.

What sets this album apart is that every track is superb but to me the tracks above are special to me personally.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Michel Colombier. He had a great talent for writing in various styles and the quality of his music is reflected by the fact that the top musicians performed his works. He understood the role of each instrument and featured them in solos without pushing himself to the front. For him, the music always came first.

I feel as I did when I heard of the death of Jaco Pastorius; devastated. There aren't many musicians of this calibre around and their loss will be felt by musicians around the world.

I was watching the Grammys last night and was just devastated to learn of Michel's passing. I was 20 years old when "Wings" was released and was never more moved and inspired than after hearing it. I became obsessed with everything he did, especially "Old Fool Back on Earth" and the self titled album that featured the greatest lineup of contemporary jazz stars ever (Jaco Pastorius, Steve Gadd, Herbie Hancock, etc.). I always told all my musician buddies that Michel was my very favorite musician because of his brilliant orchestrations and mastery of all genres. "Wings" should be studied and reviewed by every serious musician in the world and I pray that his legacy will be embraced and shared for all time. Peace to Michel and his family.

The best way for me to pay a tribute to Michel Colombier was, it seems to me, to evoke him in a page of the site devoted to Georges Guétary for whom he arranged and orchestrated some musical partitions in 1968-69, and for whose daughter he composed the music of "Abradcadabra" in 1988.
I also wish to take advantage of this opportunity to say that Michel Colombier's music, in its "classical" line carries me in serene heights of infinite –and I thank him for that, when you can be lost in life, when life does not appear clear.
And then, I love those untiring rebels who, by the example, stimulate human rise.

Belgium, from where Toots Thielemans and Jean-Michel Folon are, both Michel Colombier's friends; for this reason, the sites of Courriaulx (http://www.Courriaulx.net/) and of the pictorial art of Caroline-Marie Labenne (http://www.CMLabenne.be/) recall him too.

From it's initial release, Michel's 'Emmanuel' had become my signature tune for life: the ultimate generique, prelude to every new momentum, introduction to any new direction, a magic moment on its own.

After being informed on Michel's passing away by my dear friend Michael Lennon, who had worked with him some years ago and who was - strangly enough - not familiar to this beautiful song, I mailed an mpeg to his hotel room.

On the sounds of Emmanuel, we couldn't help sharing the tears because of this great loss. Another magic moment passed by, I guess.

Thanks for sharing the beauty of your talent through all those years. May god bless your soul forever!

Condolences and God Speed!!!! In 1971 I was a young
trumpet player/arranger for the US Army Band during
Viet Nam. "WINGS" saved my musical sanity and pointed
me in a direction which would later take me to the
big bands of Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson and the
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and singer Ethel Ennis...
over the years, and many miles and gigs later, I had
worn out my THIRD copy of "WINGS" and the SECOND copy
of "OLD FOOL"....those albums were ALWAYS on the top
of the stacks no matter what was going on...imagine
my surprise when, while working in the video department of the Siddha Yoga Ashram in New York, I
walk by the message board and see Michel's name. I
stopped right then and there and took a few moments
to catch my breath. I rushed back to the video department and asked about Michel...they didn't know
where he was! Two days later, having thought I had
missed the opportunity of a lifetime, I answered the
phone in the video production office to find, you
guessed it, Michel on the other end of the phone! That
was the opportunity to finally thank him for playing
a major role in my musical and spiritual life. When
I got off of the phone, the production manager noticed
that I had never answered the phone in that intense a manner all Summer...I had to explain that it was like being able to thank Bach or Beethoven or Stravinsky for being in your life, AND being able to say it, heart-to-heart, in person. What a perfect environment for such a gift!!!!! Michel was , and will always be,
such a perfect gift for our environment! Thanks and
blessings for ever....Jaya Gurumayi! Gary

Michel, I am so sure somewhere in this beautiful universe you see all our tears and feel all the love of your friends and family who will miss you so much. It was as though you would always be here making your incredible music. You were such a wonderful human being first, and as I always called you "the funkiest Frenchman I know!" After having the honor of knowing you for 25 years, even though I hadn't seen you for a while, you were always living in my heart as a wonderful friend and a genius composer.

It was so fun having our play hangs and I'm so happy that I was the one God chose to bring you to the function where you met your wife, Dana. That was a very special occasion for me as that day changed your life.

You were so elegant that going anywhere with you, a girl had to have her s...t together!! You always looked liked you walked right off the pages of GQ Baby!!!

Your support of my music was such a solid place for me to lean on when I was ever in doubt. You will be missed miserably, but never ever forgotten.
Your creativity lives on as does your loving spirit.
Goodbye for now, my friend

Michel,

What a beautiful Legacy you have left for us.
Such exquisite music, such a great example to all of us.
Michael Shapiro spoke so highly of you, he said that one of the most impressive things about Michel is that no matter what kind of project he is working on he gives the same high degree of care and craftmanship to each piece, no matter if it be a Studio Film or a Movie of the week. It was a joy and an inspiration to watch and listen to you work.

Your legacy to always give your best has always been such a great ethical lesson especially in today's high pressure, very little time, post production world. It has touched, moved and inspired others, to reach further, work harder and be the best we can be, what greater good could anyone possibly do?

You will be missed. I hope that you were met by Jaco and many other missed friends and family when you transitioned.

Love and Light,
-Stefanie

Mr. Colombier, I just wanted to write a quick note to you to say how much I have enjoyed your music. I first became acquainted with it, like most Americans I suppose, through the soundtrack of "Against all Odds". I must say, "The Search" or title theme to that movie is so haunting and recognizable that I literally hadn't heard it for 5 or 6 years, yet immediately recognized it when I heard the theme playing on television several weeks ago. I wasn't even paying attention to the TV at that point, in fact was in the other room, but had to rush to the set when I heard that guitar playing that theme and stay to the end to see your name on the credits.

I checked out your web site and listened to all of the examples and have to tell you that I really like your music. The sense of ebb and flow and melodic line is something that is sorely missed in today's music, yet I hear it very prominently in yours. Bravo!

A quick question, have you written any music for solo voice with piano accompaniment? The list of French composers that have contributed to the melodie over the years is an extremely important one, although entirely too short. I hope that you have.

In any event, please accept my best wishes and know that you have an extremely pleased fan that has rediscovered your music after many years.

All the best,
Shaun Haywood, operatic tenor

In 1974, I was posted/sentenced for one year to a dot between the Artic Ocean and the Bering Sea, Sheyma, Alaska. I saw a French movie one day, along with a half dozen others, that left me with two lasting memories: 2 French businessmen, playing a vigorous game of soccer/football didn't shower afterwards, they just splashed on cologne(!) and the soundtrack was terrific. Thanks to the WWW, I've found the name of the movie and the composer of the music. Now, is the sound track to "L' Héritier" available?

TIA.

First time I heard of M.C. was after buying the album M.C., seeing all the brilliant musicians participating, Pastorius, Gadd, Erskine. After listening once I was hooked. I managed to get hold of a second hand "Wings", scratched and noisy.
And loved that one, too, having heard one of the tunes in a French gangster movie in my youth, with Deneuve and Gabin, I think it was.
So, I heard of "Old fool back on Earth", with elements of film scores and great vocal parts.
Then; enter the compact discs. I managed to obtain "Wings", but it took me years to get M.C. The VERY funny thing is, that I made my own cd of "M.C.", for convenience, and I let Peter Erskine know of this via a friend. Later he got a cd in the mail, his vinyl copy was worn out long ago.
Of course I have them all on real cd's now, and have ordered "Dream", - no shops in London have it in stock.
I now look forward to hear the new release of "Wings", having read somewhere that it has been remastered.
Of course I have seen the films with M.C. music,
and understand that a tour with a band is out of question.

Keep on the brilliant work.

Hello Michel,
You can't belive how long I'v been searching for one of your works. I first heard your Michel Colombier album in 1980. Since 1988 without any luck I have been looking and living request at some rare & used album store's here in Los Angeles. Back in 1997 I worked for the distributor for Mogami wire & cable. I recived an order and spoke with Michael Boddicker. I asked how to get a copy of the album or CD. It was out of print. It has Haunted me. For many decades I have been telling most all of my musician freinds of that album. I am blessed to find your web site. It is truly Chritsmas, I await my CD shipment. Merry Christmas to you and your family. And many more brilliant works from your Music's
heart in the New Year.

Hello, Migalo Laboro
Congratulation for to "Die another day". It realy blow my mind.I'm from Libya, and if it not for technology I won't hear about you.
I visited your website which I managed to reach.I hope I can organize to get your works. Are there any in Egypt? That will make it easier. I liked the proverb (in the forum); "Turn your face to the sun and the shadows will fall behind". What do you think about this saying, I encountered it in an old American movie; "You Lit Up My Life". Not widely known. It was a well done movie.
It says; "Sometime when you reach for a dream, you have to leave something behind".
And you'll leave behind music to enrich our life and warm our hearts.
Thank You

Hello,

I never heard of Colombier before 1989 when I heard Emmanuel on a cd played by oboist Han de Vries.
It was a very beautiful one and I was very touched by this. since that time I tried a few times to get this piece for oboe and piano, but unfortunately this was not possible according to the sheetmusic seller.
My question is:
Can I get anywhere a copy of Emmanuel for oboe and piano, or maybe the piano reduction or something else.
I hope that someone can help me.
Thanks,

Bravo à vous.

Thankyou Michel for your beautiful contributions to music. I was introduced to "Old Fool Back On Earth" by the inspirational Graeme Lyall (Cons. of Music, Perth, Western Australia) and was hooked from the first moment! How delightful, then, to see his entry in this guestbook, having not seen him for several years and now living in Melbourne. Hello! One of my all time favorite film scores would be "How Stella got her Shoes back" and consider the use of solo finger piano thoughout absolutely amazing. As for Michel Colombier music I've especially enjoyed the score for "Surrender" quite a bit. It's got a Goddamn good strong sound! I despise dripping sweetness and things of that nature other than when poured on a stack of six pancakes. Yesterday I found myself pleastly surprised to learn that there exists a recording of Herbie Hancocks music from "Fat Albert". From the perspective of a person who listens with both ears I consider what I've heard of your music pretty goddamn good and was wondering if perhaps you might be interested in scoring a film that I've been considering making possibly with Giancarlo Gianini in a supporting role and titled (english translation) "Legend of Stinky the Whore". And if Giancarlo Gianini isn't interested in the role I have in mind a fella who knows a fella who knows another fella that looks like Ernest Borgnine that'll work for cheap. Over the past several years I've been working for cheap doing clean-up work at construction sights with alcoholics and crack-heads and figure that I'm due for a change so thought I'd try a shot a film directing. Next I was wondering if any one knows anyone interested in financing?
